And that’s a wrap on Derby 2025

Roses are not just for Valentine’s Day. Kentucky Bourbon is of course a frequent participant!

The Kentucky Derby is the most prestigious horse race. It has run for 151 consecutive years. Then add the Kentucky Derby Festival on top and you’ve got a solid two weeks of fun festivities.

But sometimes Mother Nature has other ideas.

First, Thunder Over Louisville was scheduled a week early due to Easter happening in the normal “two weeks before Derby” weekend. And then an epic flood happened. While the flood waters would be receding there was no way to safely put on the event, and downtown needed a major clean up before anything could really be hosted.

Two of the four hot air balloon event where cancelled and one was postponed.

It rained most of the days during Derby Week.

The Great Steam Boat race saw the Belle of Louisville have to withdraw do a leak in a bulkhead that prevented enough fuel to race. Our plan to provide coverage from the Belle of Louisville was cancelled.

Friday for the Kentucky Oaks and Saturday for the Kentucky Derby was a rain fest. At one point, on Friday, lighting delayed racing and sent everyone for cover. So, we close our books on the 2025 campaign and are excited about what 2026 brings for Kentucky Derby 152.
