And it’s a wrap on the 2017 Derby Festival

After our successful return to North Carolina after spending two weeks in Louisville, it’s time to look back on the two weeks.

While our normal adventure lasts 10 days (Friday thru Sunday spanning the week before the Kentucky Derby), this year, we drove up to Louisville two Friday’s before the Derby to take part in Thunder over Louisville and the world-wide March for Science. We still had to work the next week, which meant jetting Mrs. Kentucky Derby Adventure back to North Carolina while I stayed in Louisville working from my mobile office.

I participated in events on 12 days including balloon events, horse racing events, beds and boats too. In those 12 days I racked up 64,616 steps. I climbed 75 flights of stairs and walked nearly 19 miles (and my phone was off about 1/3 of the day for the Derby!). The average day was 5,385 steps, 6.25 flights and over 1.5 miles)

But perhaps the most important take-a-way is friendship. It was good seeing family. It was good seeing friends we met in previous adventures and it was fun making new friends for future adventures.

The only thing left is to see who wins the Honda CR-V for getting a Gold Pegasus Pin. Oh yea, I scored one this year.

We are already looking forward to next year.

The Royal Court greats guests as they board the Belle of Louisville for the Great Steamboat Race.

The Belle of Louisville had a brief lead over the Belle of Cincinnati.
Abel Tasman works out at Dawn at the Downs. She would go on to win the 2017 Kentucky Oaks.

It was a sloppy race for the 143rd Kentucky Oaks.
