The 2015 Great Bed Races took place on Monday, April 27th at Broadbent Arena in Louisville.  It pits race teams together who have to build a race bed with four wheels and hold a full sized mattress during one of the Kentucky Derby Festival’s  signature events.

The teams are made up of four pushers and one driver that rides in the bed.

The competition is broken into two phases the style competition and the race.  Two winners for style are crowned in the “Most Entertaining” and “Best Decorated”.  For the race, there is a competitive division and a fun division. There are also a few unofficial awards as well such as the cone eater, the bed that takes out the most cones and the best tailgate food.

The beds were paraded to the crowd of over 3000 in their full decor. Then they were stripped down to their race form and brought back in and raced in pairs of two in a figure 8 course.

The team from Texas Roadhouse took the competitive division and Ford Motor Company won the fun division.  Kidz Club won for best dressed and Rubbies South Side Bar and Grill took most entertaining with their Las Vegas themed bed.

Caretenders took both the Cone Eater and best tailgate food awards.
