And bums a photographer.
Papa Clem works at Churchill Downs prior to the 135th Kentucky Derby
I got to see three Kentucky Derby horses work this week and got photos I was happy with of I Want Revenge. Early this morning, I Want Revenge kicked his stall and as a safety measure, his trainer decided not to run him in today’s 135th Kentucky Derby. I really wanted to come back with a photo of a Derby champion.
I still have a chance with Papa Clem and Summer Bird, but I wasn’t as happy with their photos.
*SIGH*
Yesterday was about the fillies as the Kentucky Oaks was run for its 135th time, raising over $104 thousand dollars for breast cancer research. It was also the day that the “Blanket of Roses” was made for today’s derby.
It was hand built by the florists at the Kroger supermarket in Middletown Kentucky. Long lines of fans waited to see the florists build the heralded blanket that gives the race its name “Run for the Roses”.
In addition to the construction of the blanket, the trophy was on display that will go to the winner later today. That winner will not be I want Revenge
